Wurlitzer Colonial 1080a

A 1948 Wurlitzer Colonial 1080A.

The 1080 came out in 1947, having the same mechanism as the famous 1015 of 1946/7. The 1080A was similar to the 1080 but had the same mechanism as the 1100 of 1948 and this meant that it had the much improved Cobra Tone Arm. An original advertisment states:-

"The rousting reception accorded this beautiful and authentic Colonial Model has prompted Wurlitzer to continue it in the line for 1948. Known as the Model 1080A, it incorporates Model 1100 sound system and the Zenith Cobra Tone Arm! Already recognized for its brilliant tone, music by this graceful period instrument becomes even finer than before. No needle noise. No damage to records. No damage to floating pick either. It's retractable. Any extra pressure forces the needle up off the record, leaving a smooth plastic shoulder resting on the record."

It is recorded that there were only 1,700 of these machines made whereas there were 7,600 1080s.
This example of this rare collectable machine is in such good original condition that it really has to be seen!
